Annually Freshen Up Your Home's Exterior

A few years ago, I started looking into different ways to make my yard look a lot better. I realized that our entire driveway needed to be renovated and the sidewalk needed to be fixed, so I started looking into different paving solutions. I began talking with different contractors around the area about fixing the concrete, and before I knew it, I was working with true professionals who understood what we were faced with. They took their time, did the job right, and really made our yard stand out. This blog is totally dedicated to paving to improve your home.

Annually Freshen Up Your Home's Exterior

If you are like most people, you may have a certain day of the year where you move all of your furniture around to clean the entire inside of your house. Most people refer to this day as their 'spring cleaning' day. However, not everyone who "spring cleans" the inside of their house has a set time period for freshening up the exterior of their yard, but it is a good idea. If you want to add the exterior of your home to your annual house maintenance chores, then you should consider adding the following things to your list:

Power wash your walkways, porches, and outside steps

You want to use a power washer to power wash the walkways around your property, as well as the porches and outside steps. Power washing these areas will help to remove ground in dirt and other stains that have made their way onto them over the year. In fact, if you have a lot of traffic or you have a dirt yard, then you may want to power wash these areas more than just once a year to keep the outside of your home looking great all the time.

Wash your fence

Another thing you want to add to your list of to-dos for your home's exterior at least once a year is to wash your fence. No matter what type of fencing you have, it will be prone to getting dirty from things like the rain, wind blowing dirt on it, traffic going by, animals urinating on it and more. You can clean your fence with a nylon brush, liquid dish soap, and a high-powered nozzle on the end of your garden hose. You may not want to use a power washer for the fence because it can be too strong and strip the paint and sealant from it.

Touch up the trim on your house

A home's trim tends to take more abuse than the rest of the paint, and this can leave it chipping much faster. This is why it's a good idea to keep plenty of touch-up paint on hand. Walk around the house and look for areas that need touching up. When you find them, chip away paint that is cracking or peeling and add a couple of coats of matching paint to those spots to keep the house looking better year-round.

Have your asphalt driveway sealcoated

After some time goes by, your nice-looking asphalt driveway will start to look dull, and it can even start to crack. Sealcoating the driveway will put a nice and new layer of protectant on it that will help it look fresh and prevent many of those cracks from occurring.
